Vehicles + Machines

The landscape of vehicles and machines is rapidly transforming. AM is no longer just for concept cars – it’s unlocking possibilities for prototyping, tooling, and even limited-run production across the entire spectrum, from vehicles to industrial machines. Just like in the automotive industry, AM impacts everything from drive components and braking systems to batteries and seating solutions.

This Working Group goes beyond sharing experiences. We’ll delve into the diverse use cases and expertise of our members to spark innovation. By understanding how AM is applied in different contexts – from cars to special machinery – we’ll collectively identify opportunities for developing ideas and solutions within the vehicles and machines sector.

Aero + Space

The recently formed Aero+Space working group is working on efficient high-tech components in the aerospace industry. This working group will deal with various topics in the aviation and aerospace sector. CO2 reduction, weight saving, material requirements and space design are just the first ideas. Of course, we will also discuss questions such as, “How do we manage to print tools, spare parts or buildings in orbit from the source materials there?”

Digital Supply Chain

This working group is focusing on analyzing the AM Supply Chain and identifying optimization potential in order to derive general statements for similar components.
A first step was the mapping of the digital supply chain for additively manufactured products. Then they collected lots of use cases to evaluate common characteristics and properties for sorting additively manufactured parts.

RAILiability

This working group is a protected space for railway companies to share knowledge, to reach 100% availability of spare parts and rolling stock and to optimize supply chain costs.

Already this cooperation helps new players to accelerate much faster and has achieved that 3D printing requirements are integrated into the tender for new rail vehicles.

Ecological Sustainability

This includes topics like the carbon footprint, energy consumption, waste reduction, the reuse of valuable materials and the recycling of unavoidable waste. 

Our Mission: Focusing on concrete facts and figures to correctly evaluate the ecological potential of Additive Manufacturing and assess neutrally and unbiased how green this technology in relation to other manufacturing technologies is. Additionally, the Working Group develops approaches in materials, technologies and business models to improve the ecological impact of AM processes and technologies.

Education

This working groups main goal is to bring transparency into the training market and help potential users to get a better overview of training opportunities.

Materials

In additive manufacturing the range of materials is even greater than the number of different technologies. It is for this reason that in this working group we bundle our interests to better understand the market and to advance AM together.

Our mission: We want to drive the industrialization of AM and inspire new approaches for the topic of materials. To achieve this we use the potential of the network to identify customer needs and market trends. In Addition we provide technological expertise and guidelines within the network.

Approval in Rail

When MGA was founded, the regulatory approval of additively manufactured, safety-relevant components especially for rail traffic systems was identified as a priority topic. This working group focuses on the following topics, to advance the additive manufacturing of safety-relevant (spare-) parts:
